Hacettepe University Skeletal Biology Laboratory (Husbio_L)

Hacettepe University Skeletal Biology Laboratory (Husbio_L) is a laboratory in Turkey that houses human skeletal remains unearthed from archaeological excavations. With the contribution of our department's students and faculty members, the laboratory conducts current and pioneering research in various fields of bioarchaeology such as burial practices, population history, demography, nutrition, diseases, and daily activities, utilizing over 12,000 human skeletal remains excavated from more than 50 archaeological sites. The research aims to understand the past and shed light on the present.

Our laboratory is open during the fall and spring semesters on weekdays from 09:00 to 17:00. During the summer period, the laboratory is closed as we participate in archaeological excavations. Our doctoral, master's, and undergraduate students are able to continue their work in the laboratory on a voluntary basis. Undergraduate students extensively utilize the laboratory to apply their elective course practices and put their theoretical knowledge into practice under the guidance of our graduate students and professors. Additionally, interested students who receive the necessary training during the academic term can participate in excavations and work with us in uncovering the skeletons.
